For those who have had a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
This page of our Making Headway home is created by and for people who have experienced the life-changing impact of Traumatic Brain Injury.
Here we hope to offer you the tools and encouragement you need to:
Find your answers
Overcome your challenges
Enrich your life
Life after a “TBI” is a journey. Maybe your TBI was just a momentary bump in the road, maybe a long detour. Or perhaps you feel like you woke up on a road in a foreign land without map, a compass or a translator.
Three things are certain
1. Your journey is your own.
No one has your exact same challenges. But they do not have your personality, your talents or your way of looking at the world, either.
2. It helps to have friends along the way.
The journey of recovery will ask a lot of you. But everything you put into it will come back to you. It will be work, but it will be the best work you’ve ever done.
You have the blueprint of your life in your own hands. You will need a good team to help you build and design the pathway to your best future.
That team can be anyone: Friends, family, nurses, doctors, therapists, aides, bus drivers, social workers, technicians...even animals can be part of your healing team. ...anyone who knows you and supports you in your journey.
3. You will be healing, learning and growing every day of your life for as long as you live.
Everyone is on a lifelong journey of experience. You are in the unique position of looking closely at your own journey and planning your best future.
Some people go through life blindly accepting what is put in their path. Some people take a good look at life and choose the pathway they will follow. They live moment by moment and day by day following that path. It is a journey with heart, a journey of courage. You can make that journey, too.
Your brain injury has given you the opportunity to really look at your life:
Most who have been on this kind of journey come to believe they are:
We hope this is true for your journey as well.
