Traumatic Brain Injury
A few tips for living well with a brain injury
- Write things down – Keep a calendar and a notebook nearby.
When you write things down, include all the important details you’ll
want to remember. Read your note out loud to yourself to help it stay
in your memory.
- Keep a daily schedule. Predictable routines help
make life easier.
- Be curious. Ask questions. But ask yourself
first. This helps you reason things out.
- Have goals. Make them
realistic and practice thinking about each step at a time. Ask family,
friends or support people for feedback.
- Be honest with yourself.
Admit what you can and cannot do. Then you know where to begin and when
to ask for help.
- Do not use drugs or alcohol. Your mind will be
clearer and heal faster.
- Be willing to make mistakes and try again.
- Create
a phone list of people who will be there if you need them.
- Remind
yourself that you where you are supposed to in your healing journey right
here, right now.
- Do your best in the moment. That is all you
can ask of yourself.
